MP6215 det ects the sho r t or overload and immediately switches in t o a constant -current mode. 2) a short or an overload occurs after t he device is enabled. after the current-limit cir c uit has been tripped (reached th e trip curren t threshold), t he device switches into constant- current mode. however, high current may flow for a sh ort period of time before the current-limit circuit can r eact. 3 output current has b een gradually increased beyond the recommende d operating current. the load cur r ent rises un til the trip cu rrent threshold is reached or until the ther mal limit of the device is exceed ed. the MP6215 is capable of d elivering cur r ent up to th e trip current thre shold withou t damaging the device. once the trip thr eshold has been reached, the device switches into its constant- current mode. flag response the flag pin is an open drain configuration. this fault will report a fail mode after an 8ms deglitch t i meout. this is used to e nsure that no false fau l t signals are reported. this intern al deglitch cir c uit elimina t es the ne ed for extend components. the flag pin is n ot deglitche d during an over temp. or a voltage lockout.
MP6215 ?cu rrent-limi t ed powe r distribu tion sw itc h MP6215 rev. 0. 9 www.monolithicpower.com 8 3/23/2010 mps proprietar y information. un a u t horized photoc op y and duplication prohibited. ? 2010 mps. all rights reserved. thermal protection the purpose of thermal protect i on is to prevent damage in the ic by all o wing exceptive current to flow and heating the junction. the die temperature is internally monitored until the thermal limit is reached. once this te mperature is reached, th e switch will turn off a nd allow the chip to coo l . the switch has a built- i n hysteresis. under-volta ge lockout (uvlo) this circu i t is used to monitor the input voltage t o ensure that t he MP6215 is operating correctly. this uvlo circu i t a l so ensures that is n o operation u ntil the inp ut voltage reaches th e minimu m s pec . enable the logic pin disable s the switch to redu ce overall supply current .once the en pin reaches logic high, the mp621 5 is enabled .
